Whatever the reason, it’s tempting to think that all you need is the perfect plan and you’ll be on your way to working from anywhere in the world. But before you can work from home, you first need to figure out how to monetize what you know.
Here are four tips for turning your skills into cash and making your work-from-home dreams a reality.
First, think about what you’re good at and what people would be willing to pay for. It could be anything from cooking to web design to personal training. One way to look at this is to think about things that people already ask you about. Perhaps you’re well-versed in a certain topic and people see you as the expert.
It’s really important that you love this particular subject or niche. Because if you don’t love it now, you won’t love it later. So think carefully about starting a business around it, if it doesn’t light you up.
But if it does … the next step is to research the demand for that particular skill. This will help you determine how much you can charge for your services.
Google is a great source of information. Do your research. You can also use Facebook Groups as a way to find out if people are talking about this particular subject, and there’s also Instagram hashtag research … are people talking about it now? How about Google Trends – take a look and see what’s coming up around this area. If you were looking for this particular talent, where would you go to find out more info? Start there.
Now that you know there’s a demand for what you have to offer, it’s time to start thinking about how you can monetize your skills. Here are four ways to do it:
One way is to create an online course. This is a great option if you’re comfortable being on camera or recording audio. You can online platforms to create and host your course.
Or create digital assets that you can sell – like an ebook. There are simple sites that will help you to create an ebook quickly – like Canva. You could check out my ebook course too! How does passive income sound to you? I’m not kidding when I say it is entirely possible to create an ebook and get paid in your sleep.
Another way is to start a coaching program. This could be one-on-one coaching or group coaching. You’d want to start out by figuring out who your ideal client is and what problem you are solving for them. Getting more specific will help you find the right clients.
You could also start a service-based business. This is a great option if you don’t want to create digital products or courses. With a service-based business, you can offer your time and expertise to clients in exchange for money. You could work with local people who live by you like mowing lawns, dog walking or other home care or personal assistance jobs like taking elderly people to medical appointments.
So there you have it – four ways to monetize your skills so you can work from home. All it takes is a little bit of research and creativity. When I quit my corporate job as a Project Manager I had lots of experience in the online space having had several online businesses before.
I drop shipped, I had an Amazon FBA store as well as multiple ecommerce businesses.
I was good with technology and had an entrepreneurial mindset.
These were some of the skills that I was able to monetize so I could work from home.
Now I coach people on how to make money online by monetizing skills that they already have so they can live anywhere in the world and work – as long as they have an internet connection.
